“Writing” by Shirly F. Garcia
Shirly F. Garcia.
Writing
Writing is one of the most common ways of communication. Through text, mails, emails, and even published books. Most of the information today is written in books, manuals, and manuscripts.
Writing also played a great part to our culture and history. Rizal used his writing skills to fight the Spaniards. It’s his way to inspire and enlighten the Filipino masses to fight for their very own freedom and country
Writing is a very powerful element. It can easily uplift and horribly destroy. Writers posses much power on them for they holds the future perception of people. Our minds are very vulnerable to written facts and statements. We often view written words as truth.
We should be responsible enough in writing, we should think twice before typing, for writing is an endless power, for great power comes with great responsibility.
Thank you.
why should jay walking be prohibited?
Every minutes or even second , there are about thousands pedestrians crossing an
intersection . These pedestrians come from all walks of life —-
professionals , students , bystanders , tourists , and the like , both males and females . Some are wearing rugged clothes , while some others are in
casual attire . Still other pedestrians are in their business attire .
Among those pedestrians crossing an intersection , there are about
hundreds who cross the street against the light , or in other words , who
jaywalk . Jaywalkers have no distinct characteristics from the general
pedestrians . There are jaywalkers who are professionals , students and
bystanders . Male and female pedestrians were observed jaywalking .
Tourists , however (especially the foreigners , are observed to be a
little cautious on jaywalking . This may be attributed to the fact that
since they are foreigners in the area , they are not aware of the
prevailing rules , specifically the punishments , on jaywalking and thus
are cautious in committing the illegal act .
Jaywalking happens at any time of the day . Jaywalkers have different
reasons for crossing the street against the light , though most of them seem to be in a hurry , perhaps because they are already late for a
meeting or an appointment , or for class . For some others , they jaywalk
because the weather was too hot that they wanted to cross the street
right away to be able to get to the place their going immediately . Some
jaywalkers , however , seemed to do the illegal act for mere
thrill-seeking . These are usually the bystanders . They did not seem to
be in a hurry but jaywalked anyway since they seemed to be no one in
sight who will apprehend them .
eventually others will joined even though they were not used to it the jaywalkers after realizing
that they ‘ll be crossing the street with many other pedestrians , so
there is less risk of getting hit by motorists .
In the instances where the “good ’ pedestrians were stimulated to
jaywalk , it was observed that they tend to follow the jaywalkers who looked like professionals —- those who were in business attire . But
when the jaywalkers were those who looked like bystanders —- those in
rugged clothes —- only few were stimulated to follow . Those who were
stimulated , on the other hand , were observed to be the young
professionals and the students . The middle-aged and the elder
pedestrians still preferred to wait for the light to change before
crossing the street .
In almost all urban areas , jaywalking has been prohibited since it
causes danger both to the pedestrian and to the motorists…

MASSCOM DAY
By:Shirly Garcia
MASSCOM DAY
It’s such a big day, a pretty much awaited event especially for IAS. You can see preparation all around.
A singing contest was also held, which was obviously unfair. Carla should have won the first prize. She’s the only contestant worthy of the title. But that’s life, expect the unexpected. We just find it hard to move on after too much effort and support she gained from us. Org shirts was also distributed and awarded to the winners, which added to the pain of losing.
But besides this, it was a successful event. And I would like to thank the people behind this and their perseverance to pursue this great and joyful event. Thank You…
Youth Empowerment Through New Media: The case of wikileaks
BY: SHIRLY GARCIA

Last January 27,2011 Far Eastern University Political Science-Institute of Arts and Sciences conduct a symposium, held at FEU auditorium and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago as the guest speaker.
The talk was all about enlightening the youth to maximize the presence of new innovated media to stand for what is true. Senator Santiago begin her word by stating several graphic jokes to catch the attention of her collegiate audience and some administrative staffs. Then proceed to the topic proper, according to her the Constitution provides: “The State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building.” In addition to that the state adopts and regulate a policy of full public disclosure of all it’s transaction concerning the public interest. The government should foresee and surrender their complete trust that young people of today’s generation are capable enough to participate on nation building and someday they will be globally competitive that they will be a pride instead of being a problem of the state.
In social networking site such as facebook, friendster and twitter, you have the opportunity to express your thoughts and feeling in fighting for the future of our fellow citizen,it may also be a tool to guard our so-called “leaders” to do their duties and responsibilities to our country in a just and in noble way. One advantage being a Filipino is that among the constitution of the world , we have specific provision protecting the right to information, thus “ The right of the people to information on matters of public concern shall be recognized. We are allowed to acces official records of the government yet subjected to such limitations as may be provided by law.
Be sober and vigilant to stand for what is just, fair and noble. Inform others and be informed as well , who knows maybe this first step could be the beginning of the most hope for,-CHANGE.
NARRATIVE : POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE IN CLASS
INSIDE THE ROOM
By: Shirly Garcia
I have my own share of “happy and sad” memorable experiences inside the classroom. And here are some:
Positive
Of course, one of the main reasons of student’s happiness is having high grades and scores. Without the motive of bragging, I also had a lot of experiences of having good grades. It’s my most favorite feeling. Specially when I perfect some exams. I feel like I’m in paradise, having the smile that I can’t contain. That maybe the “most positive” experience I can ever think of.
Negative
Being humiliated in front of people is my greatest fear. You can do almost everything to me but please just don’t humiliate me. I value my name so much. I can afford to lose due to humiliation.
I’ve had a humiliating yet funny experience in class. My best friend and I had been under a miss understanding, and it’s my fault. I just find it hard to ask for apology. After 1 month without talking to each other I felt so uncomfortable.
One day as I enter the room something is written on the board which says “ONE WORD TOOK YOU ONE MONTH TO SAY” and my name is written below it. It just came to my sense that my best friend wrote it. My classmates are aware of our misunderstanding. They started laughing because of my expression and I felt humiliated.
But it persuaded me to ask her forgiveness, and she forgave me.
In the end, I’m thankful to that experience. If not because to it, my best friend would be gone right now. So it’s not that negative at all. THANK YOU!!
CLASSROOM DESCRIPTION
MY SECOND HOME
By: Shirly Garcia
Being on unfamiliar places makes me uncomfortable. I always feel strange and weird. I don’t know if I’m some kind of “territorial” being, but I just feel so good in my own territory, which is my home.
I’m afraid of people. I’m not used to being looked-at often. Going to school makes me a little bit nervous because of the thought that students will look at me and criticize in different manner. I can’t show my own personality and character in front of unfamiliar faces. I’m a fun and friendly girl but I’m not used to interact with people I don’t know. But inside my classroom is a whole lot different story.
Our classroom is just a typical kind of school rooms, though it’s a little high end compared to my past schools. It’s arrange and designed for the comfort of students and their professors. White board, armchairs, air-cons and a lot more of typical classroom-kind of things can be seen inside.
Being in our classroom makes me so comfortable and at home. And I can see that my classmates also feel the same way. I become myself every time I enter our room. Maybe it’s just that I’m so used, maybe “over used”, to my classmates and professors.
I’m so thankful to have places, like the classroom, that students can express and show their emotion, character, and personality freely. That besides home, some place can still make us feel so comfortable and safe.
FEU FOUNDATION DAY
FEU FOUNDATION DAY By: Shirly Garcia FEU Foundation Day is a much awaited event for students and specially the different student clubs. Charities and services also have parts in this event. Even the Red Cross Blood Bank participated. I planned to donate blood because my friends invited me to participate the blood bank’s charity. But the thought of “needles in me” gives me chills. So I’ve disregarded that plan. I’m sorry for the blood needy. It’s a very busy day, especially for IAS students. Preparing, inviting and promoting the upcoming event. Bands were also invited like caliallily, pupil etc. Students from different institutes were so excited and ready for the “party”. But unfortunately the ‘spoiler” rain poured and messed up the event. Left with no option, the school rescheduled the event. To be Continued……………………..
CONVINCING HEART OF A MANNEQUIN
CONVINCING HEART OF A MANNEQUIN
By: shirly Garcia
A life-sized anatomical figure of a human used by artists, tailors, dressmakers, and others especially to display or fit clothing in store. We usually saw this craft inside the mall , isn’t it? Did you ever ask yourself why do everytime you enter a boutique a mannequin is always present, seemingly welcomes you with a look that you can’t resist . In the film ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ mannequins were highlighted at the beginning, middle and at the end of the story. It is noticeably important in the story proper.
Mannequins are lifeless thing, but why do it still convinced a shopper to buy the products it was wearing it doesn’t even talking but why it could still talk to the heart . I definitely don’t know the answer but what I know is that it played a very tricky role in our shopping lives. It could convinced us to buy the thing that we don’t really need at all they can even command as to buy more. We should know how to play the game because even lifeless object could be your worst enemy and always be reminded that they are very tricky they could messed up your lives that easy.
So, if I will be the columnist in the film I will give a big impression to the mannequins because as a shopaholic it could be your bestfriend that will show or give you the best even better but it could be your enemy that will persuade you to buy more, even you already incapable of purchasing but will surely squeeze you out until nothing is left for you to rise up.
Do not be blinded by beautiful things around because even they were eye-catching it could still be plunk to your eyes.
What composes me in a ‘day’?
What composes me in 24 hours?
by: Shirly Garcia
I don’t have of what we called “day” without this thing in my life. I would probably having a traumatic life without seeing it. My life will be a passing miserable damn craft lacking my cellphone, funny to hear? Maybe you will answer “yes!”, but this thing done a lot and is the reason why I became like this and where I am stepping right now. Cellphone as one of the most in demand gadget of this generation has been part of my life for a decade. I have this when I was 10, too young? Right!, I received this as a reward for being top of the class. Because of this funny little thing I was once held-up with an ice pick pointed in my hips. You will probably ask why do I still considered this as a treasure of my life it’s because during of my high school days I was too complaisant that when I graduated I can enter into a good university because my parents are financially stable by that time. Here comes unexpected thing happened to me. I was been hospitalized for half a month and all our family saving was threw to my hospital bills.
Unluckily, my college life was still hanging as a big big… question mark (?)that time. One day my phone rang and it was a private number from no where. I answered it out of curiousity and a deep voice greeted me with a different language and accent . He was Mr. Brandford from North Carolina, he said that I was highly recommended by a close friend to him as scholar. I was shocked that time no words comes out from my mouth, aside from a simple but a heartful word, THANK YOU, SIR!
